Ministry of European Integration reacts following the adoption of recommendations at the Assembly: To not interfere in the judiciary independence!
Prishtina, 9 February 2017 – The Ministry of European Integration expresses its concerns over the adoption of the recommendations presented by the parliamentary group of Vetëvendosje Movement in the Kosovo Assembly. These recommendations seriously affect the independence of the judiciary and the justice system of Kosovo and as such are contradictory to the fundamental constitutional principle that of division of powers.
The concerning recommendations threaten the Kosovo's obligations stemming from the Stabilization and Association Agreement related to the observation of the justice system independence as one of the main European Union values.
The Ministry of European Integration notes that the adoption of these recommendations comes shortly after the European Union has confirmed that Kosovo has its own integration process in the European Union separated from Serbia, and the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement is an obligation for Kosovo to move forward in this process.
Political interference in the independence of the justice system, such as the adoption of the recommendations in question, severely affect the European integration process of Kosovo as one of the most important processes for the country's development.
